Lake Macquarie Conveyancing

Lake Macquarie is a saltwater lake and the largest natural lake on the Australian mainland. It is located in New South Wales, Australia, south of Sydney and north of Newcastle.

Lake Macquarie is a salt water lake located in the North Coast region of New South Wales, Australia.
It has an area of about 868 square kilometers and a catchment area that covers around 10% of New South Wales.

The lake gets its name from James Macarthur who sailed close to it in 1800 on his way to Port Jackson with livestock for colonial settlement at Sydney Cove (near modern-day Circular Quay).

In 1810 Governor Lachlan Macquarie opened up land for agricultural use by convict settlers which included an island near where Lake Macquarie empties into the sea which was suitable for grazing sheep.

The salt content gives Lake Macquarie its unique character not seen in other lakes such as Lake Tahoe or Great Salt Lake (Utah). The lower salinity allows plants such as mangroves to grow alongside the shoreline which are not able to survive at higher salinity levels found elsewhere. The lower salinity also enables native fish species like bony bream, black bream and flathead mullet
